Coach Haley – “Eat For Life”

Hi, I’m Haley. I’m a certified nutrition coach (pn1) and recipe developer.

I found a passion for cooking and baking and have been writing healthy recipes and meal plans with trainers and coaches for the last 4 years.

I’m here to help you implement healthy, nutritious foods into your life. Eating doesn’t have to be a chore, something you’re scared of, or a source of confusion. Eating should be delicious!

I’m so excited to share recipes and any advice I can give to help you fuel your workouts with food, but more importantly to help you enjoy eating! You can use the food you eat as a tool to reach your goals. I understand that what works for me may not work for you, and vice versa. Everyone is different and I’m here to help you figure out what eating healthy looks like for you!

I’ve been in your shoes.

“Don’t eat carbs, they are bad.”

“Eat only fat!”

“Don’t eat fat, it’s bad for you.”

“You need to do this juice cleanse to detox your body!”

Like you, I am bombarded everyday with the do’s and don’ts of how I should eat. Just a few years ago, I was overweight and unhappy in my skin.

Growing up, I dreaded PE and hated all things sports. I was always picked last for sports at school and defined myself as a musician and just assumed you were an athlete or you weren’t. I thought it wasn’t in the cards for me.

I always seemed to carry a little extra weight. My first year of college, I realized I wasn’t comfortable in my skin and wanted to do something, but didn’t know what to do. Thanks to Google, I figured out what a healthy weight for me would be using the BMI chart. I made that my goal weight but still didn’t do much in the way of exercising or nutrition to reach that goal.

A few months later my boyfriend (the only one I’d ever had at this point) dumped me over a text message (Thank u, next amirite?!). I was so livid that I didn’t know what to do with myself and I had the thought “I’m going on a run.” I’d never thought that in my life. With Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift queued up on my iPod, I went on my run. I didn’t even make it a quarter of a mile without stopping, but it was exactly what I needed. In fact, it felt so good that I went the next day, and the next day, and the next day after that. Everyday! Eventually, I lost a few pounds and it fueled me to continue, not to mention it helped heal my wounded heart.

Learning to fly.

After running for a while, I started at home workout videos. I didn’t have any weights so I actually used soup cans as weights to start! From there I got my first gym pass and started doing the cardio machines at the gym. I’d always assumed that weight machines and dumbbells were a men-only zone. I didn’t understand them. What a myth!

One day my friend showed me how to use the weights and I loved how strong I felt. Right around this time, I started paying attention to how I was eating and how it was holding me back from reaching my goals. Everyone had something to say, and every piece of advice seemed to contradict itself. I was very lost!

I tried a few different diets. I cut out carbs, I did a 4 day cleanse, I tried carb cycling, etc. Frustrated with all of the information out there, I decided to take control and educate myself and figure out what nutrition really looks like.

I figured out a way to still satisfy my huge sweet tooth and found a passion for baking and cooking in a healthy, sustainable way. I wanted to eat as a lifestyle, versus a diet.

Over the course of a few years, I lost 50 pounds and experienced a total transformation. Yeah, my body looked different and I felt stronger, but my transformation was more of an emotional and mental one than an outward one.

I took my passion a step further and landed a job working writing recipes and meal plans with trainers at a supplement company. I cultivated a giant love for making food and showing others that didn’t have to be scary or hard. It’s delicious and meant to be enjoyed!

I’m here to show you how to use food to fuel your body and workouts, and how to use food to connect with others.

When developing recipes, I am all about good food! Good for your body and good tasting! I love making your beloved favorites a little more healthy and showing you how to satisfy your sweet tooth and cravings. I can’t wait to show you ways of preparing healthy nutritious foods for your body that are super delicious!

I don’t believe in living a life of deprivation. I believe that in moderation, you can still have the donut, the pizza, the fries, etc! I believe in a lifestyle mentality, not a diet mentality. The things I show you are meant for the long haul!

I am a musical athlete.

Even though I created consistent habits and worked out almost every single day, I never once identified as an athlete, but I am! Not only in the gym, but I’m also a musical athlete.

I’ve been playing the piano for 22 years, and still continue to take lessons. My teacher is my coach, and I even have teammates! I play in a band and we have to work together to collaborate in writing, work out differences in taste, show up to shows and perform. We have weekly practices and are also required to practice on our own and show up to practice prepared. This structure creates a team-like atmosphere that we love!

I’m also a piano “coach” and coach 22 little mini musical athletes of my own.

You are an athlete, too.

You don’t need to wait for a break up or for heart ache to start your transformation. You can start it today. Right now! You are an athlete and I am your teammate and your nutrition coach! I am fighting for you to become the best version of yourself.

Let’s get cooking!
